Enjoy Delaware County! As the summer blends into fall, there’s nowhere better to be than in the heart of the Catskills. This summer, we thoroughly enjoyed great jazz music at the Belleayre Music Festival and such great artists as Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and Chris Isaak. Now, as fall sets in, get ready for the mid-September to October fall spectacular! Drive the Catskills for the breathtaking beauty of the fall foliage! Join the Sanctuary Open House at the Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society on October 4th in Franklin. Hawk-watching is underway and several bald eagles have been spotted in the area. Stop by the many farmers markets for organic produce, crafts, hand-made pottery and furniture.
Looking for recreational activities? Belleayre Mountain in Highmount has beachfronts, camping, boating, biking trails, skyrides and a well known ski resort. Ski Plattekill, another well known ski resort, has over 6 miles of mountain biking trails and hosts USA Cycling mountain bike races and camps as well as skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Oquaga Creek State Park has a beach at their 55 acre Artic Lake with forested campsites. Go swimming, hiking, biking or fishing for rainbow trout and black bass or scope out Big Pond and Little Pond State Parks in Andes.
Delaware County is absolutely full of beautiful parks, trails, lakes and recreational activities. Bike the 19 mile Catskill Scenic Trail that runs from Bloomville to Roxbury, it is a great trail ride. Catskill Outback Adventures in Big Indian offers rentals and lessons. The magnificent Catskill Forest Preserve is huge and includes 300 miles of marked hiking, cross country skiing and biking trails. And, did you know that in Walton, NY, Bear Spring Mountain State Park is a 7,100 acre state park that was designed specifically for horseback riding and boasts 24 miles of trails? They also have biking, hiking, snowmobiling and cross country skiing. For people who love the mountains, the Catskills have it all. Hike, bike, ski, paddle, peddle, gallup, cast, putt and more. There’s enough of the hard-core outdoor stuff to combine with the softer side of the mountains so you’re sure to find something fun for everyone! Add to that the magnificent beauty of the scenic Delaware County countryside. And you have more than just a beautiful place to live!
