Keep your eyes open for a white-tailed deer, a wild turkey, red fox, geese & ducks. Whaupaunaucau State Forest Another great trail system can be found at Whaupaunaucau State Forest in North Norwich.  Hunters, hikers and cross-country skiers have access to nearly 1,200 acres of state land.

Catskills

The Finger Lakes Trail The Finger Lakes Trail runs through Chenango County for 72 miles and is one of our most famous attractions including magnificent gorges and waterfalls fertile meadows, balsam and the biggest stand of American Chestnut trees in the county. Along the trail, see sparkling waterfalls and points of historical interest, like the stone foundation of an old stagecoach inn and large, mysterious old stone piles. In the fall, the trails are lined with amber, red and gold, and views are ablaze with the autumn colors that are the trademark of Chenango.

Brookfield State Reforestation Area: Brookfield NY 13,000 acres of state forest. 130 miles of horseback, hiking cross country skiing and snowmobile trails. The assembly  area has facilities for 150 horses pavilion, picnic area, camping facilities and more. Perfect location for whitetail deer and turkey hunting.

 

Delaware County: Looking for recreational activities?  Belleayre Mountain in Highmount has beachfronts, camping, boating, biking trails and a well known ski resort. Ski Plattekill has over 6 miles of mountain biking trails and hosts USA Cycling mountain bike races as well as skiing and snowboarding. Oquaga Creek State Park has a beach at their 55 acre Artic Lake with forested campsites. Go swimming, hiking, biking or fishing for rainbow trout and black bass or scope out Big Pond and Little Pond State Parks in Andes. Delaware County is full of parks, trails, lakes and recreational activities. Bike the 19 mile Catskill Scenic Trail that runs from Bloomville to Roxbury. Catskill Outback Adventures in Big Indian has rentals. Catskill Forest Preserve is huge and includes 300 miles of marked hiking, cross country skiing and biking trails. Walton, NY, Bear Spring Mountain State Park is a 7,100 acre state park that was designed for horseback riding with 24 miles of trails. For people who love the mountains, the Catskills have it all. There’s enough of the hard-core outdoor stuff to combine with the softer side of the mountains so you’re sure to find something fun for everyone!
